Read the following passage and answer the questions below (14 - 19):
My family and I recently attended the Hoi An Lantern Festival in Vietnam, a celebration that takes place on the 14th day of each lunar month. It's a magical time when the historic old town transforms into a beautiful spectacle of light and color. We had heard it was an amazing event, but experiencing it was something else entirely.
As evening arrived, the electric lights all over the town were switched off. Suddenly, the only light came from thousands of colorful silk lanterns. They were hanging from every shop, restaurant, and house, glowing warmly in the dark. The streets, usually busy with motorcycles, were closed to traffic, so people could walk around freely and safely. It was peaceful and felt like stepping back in time. The main activity of the festival is releasing paper lanterns on the Hoai River.
We decided to try it. We bought small, foldable paper lanterns, each with a little candle inside. We went to the riverbank, lit the candles, and made a wish before gently placing our lanterns on the water. It was a beautiful sight to see hundreds of these little lights floating down the river, carrying the hopes and dreams of many people. It is a tradition that is believed to bring good fortune and happiness.
Besides the lanterns, there were also street food stalls everywhere. We wanted to try the local food, so we bought some Cao Lau, a special noodle dish native to Hoi An, and some delicious sweet soup. Local musicians also played traditional music on the streets, adding to the wonderful atmosphere. People, both locals and tourists, were smiling and enjoying the simple, beautiful moments.
It wasn't a loud or wild party like some other festivals. Instead, it was a gentle and heartfelt celebration. It was a perfect opportunity for families to get together and for everyone to slow down and appreciate the beauty of tradition. We plan to return next year; it was a trip we will never forget.
