My family and I wanted a different kind of holiday last year, so we decided to go to Costa Rica, a country famous for its lush rainforests and incredible wildlife. We had booked a small eco-lodge deep in the jungle. Before we went, I had read many books about the country, so I was very excited.

Our adventure began as soon as we arrived. The first activity was zip-lining through the forest canopy. I had never done anything so thrilling before! Flying over the trees felt amazing. The next day, we went on a long hike. Our local guide, Juan, was fantastic. He showed us colourful birds, sleeping sloths, and troops of monkeys. He had worked as a guide for ten years, so he knew everything about the forest.

However, the trip wasn't without its challenges. On the third day, we got a little lost during a walk because I had forgotten to pack the map. I felt quite worried, but Juan had brought a compass and he quickly found the way back. He laughed and said, "The jungle always has a little surprise!"

We also visited a volcano and relaxed in natural hot springs. The local food was delicious; we ate fresh fruit and rice and beans every day. By the end of the week, we were all very tired but incredibly happy. It was an unforgettable trip because we had experienced nature so closely. It was much more rewarding than our usual beach holidays.
