Reading passage 1 (15-20): A Surprising Hobby

My friend, Leo, is one of the most interesting people I know. During the week, he works as an accountant in a busy office, a job that many people might think is quite serious and perhaps a little boring. He has to deal with numbers and reports all day, and he must be very careful and organised. Because of his job, many people are surprised when they find out about his weekend hobby. Every Saturday, Leo travels to a small airfield outside the city and learns to fly a small aeroplane. He says that when he is up in the sky, he feels completely free and relaxed. It's the opposite of his weekday job. He doesn't have to think about numbers; he just has to concentrate on the clouds and the beautiful landscape below, with its green fields and winding rivers. He started learning two years ago because he was tired of his normal routine and wanted to do something more exciting. At first, he was quite nervous about flying, especially during take-off and landing, which he found very challenging. However, his instructor, a retired pilot named Mark, was very patient and encouraging. Mark, who used to fly large commercial jets, taught him that flying is not just about controlling the plane, but also about understanding the weather and respecting the sky. 

Leo remembers one particularly amazing flight last summer when they flew along the coast. Seeing the blue ocean meet the sandy beaches from above was a fantastic experience he will never forget. It was so different from staring at a computer screen. Now, Leo can fly by himself and he might even get his pilot's license next year. He sometimes takes amazing photos from the air and shows them to us. His colleagues at work can't believe it's the same quiet Leo. They say he seems more confident and cheerful now. He says it's an expensive hobby, but it's worth every penny because it has made him a much happier and more positive person. He even dreams of one day flying his family to a small island for a holiday. He thinks everyone should have a hobby that is completely different from their job, something that makes them feel alive.
